Addicts and
alcoholic are generally very selfish and self centered at the height of their addictions. As the new person moves through our program they find addicts helping addicts, which is a very strong force, as nobody knows the condition better than someone who has been there. Gaining the ability and desire to help another is a key point in extroverting the addict once again in preparing them to re-enter home or society.

abuse as ‘the harmful and illegal non-medicinal use of drugs or alcohol’.
Drug
abuse usually begins in an effort to relieve some sort of pain or discomfort; this could be emotion, mental, or physical.
Many drugs do this, but only temporarily and generally when the drug wears off the pains and discomforts remain, often times worsened.
Since they worked once more drugs are used in an effort to obtain further relief, and since tolerance builds up in most cases more and more of the drug or alcohol is needed.
More and more of the person’s life centers around obtaining and using drugs. The drugs and alcohol have long ceased to cure any problems and have themselves now become the problem. At this point,
drug abuse involves abuse of finances, relationships, health, career, etc. When one handles the reasons for the initial
drug abuse the need for drugs fades away.

Well, Narconon is a long term, drug free, non-traditional drug
abuse treatment center.
What this means is that Narconon for one does not believe in the use of drugs in the treatment of drug or alcohol abuse.
Rather we address the factors leading up to and then continuing alcohol and drug abuse.
Substituting one drug for another just makes no sense! We are long term in that the program is designed for results not amount of time spent in rehab. Our average stay is generally 90 – 120 days depending on individual needs. Our students go at their own pace to insure the full abilities needed are gained. We are also non-traditional meaning the normal 12 step methodologies common to shorter programs and not used by rather an approach of gaining and using new abilities to produce a happy and drug free, productive life.
